Joycee Berin, Director of Enterprise Analytics, and Paul Lukac, MD, MBA, MS, AI & Physician Informaticist, discussed the approach at a recent SI Affinity Groups meeting. They’ve based their approach on the UC AI Strategy and implemented the Ethics & Algorithms Toolkit (ethicstoolkit.ai). HAIC provides oversight and strategy direction and has established a Model Lifecycle with governance checkpoints. Current challenges include standardizing bias assessment and navigating third-party vendor reviews. The Toolkit offers a helpful risk management framework, with four risk domains that can be scored separately.
