Steven Michaels is currently serving as the Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Broomfield, Colorado-based SCL Health.

SCL Health is a faith-based, nonprofit healthcare organization dedicated to improving the health of the people and communities they serve, especially those who are poor and vulnerable. Founded by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth in 1864, the $2.6 billion health network provides comprehensive, coordinated care through 8 hospitals, more than 100 physician clinics, and home health, hospice, mental health and safety-net services primarily in Colorado and Montana.

Steven is responsible for advancing technology strategies for SCL Health, including growing and optimizing the ministry through the use of digital and technological resources. His charge is to lead research, ideation and innovation of technologies that optimize operations and support and accelerate strategic initiatives and priorities. Steven guides cross-organizational technology governance, risk and security, sourcing, investment and program management efforts.

Steven has over 25 years of senior-level experience in global information technology leadership, organizational transformation, and strategic planning. He joined SCL Health in 2019 from Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he served as the Assistant Vice President of Information and Analytics Services for the past two years leading technology strategy for the organization. During his career, he has served at both Fortune 500 and non-profit organizations spanning across industries from healthcare to supply chain, telecommunications and government. Steven also served our country for more than ten years in the United States Air Force.

Steven earned his Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and completed an Executive Leadership and Management Certification with the University of Notre Dame and a Master Certificate in Six Sigma Black Belt with Villanova University. Steven received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Campbell University.

Steven and his wife of 27 years, Terri, have two sons, Max and Mitchell who are currently in college. In his spare time, Steven likes to spend time with his family, volunteer at his local church and watch the sunset with his wife. Steven and Terri also enjoy activities with their two Siberian huskies, Graycie and Gypsy and their French bulldog, Winston.
