Cyber Dialogue – Erik Decker Leads Discussion on National Health Cyber Security

Erik Decker, VP & CISO of Intermountain Healthcare, moderated a special gathering of the SI Cyber Working Group, a collective of 350 organizations and 750 members. The purpose of the gathering was to provide collective feedback on a five-year cyber security plan and to address questions posed by the White House director in June.

Today’s group discussed trends in tech, policy regulations, and business, as well as clinical operations in the healthcare industry. Cyber security concerns were addressed and goals were proposed for addressing them. Tech trends included the use of devices and sensors, the shift to cloud and analytics, and consumerism/convenience. Policy regulations included guidance on website trackers and the inclusion of IIHI, 21CCA and InfoBlocking. Business trends included the disruption of non-traditional healthcare industries, rising cost pressure and consolidation, and cyber insurance challenges.
