Building a Healthcare Data Science Strategy at UVA Health

Data science can provide fundamental insights and efficiency gains that healthcare providers must leverage. Doing this requires not only strategic alignment of data science with overall health system strategy, but also workflow alignment with caregivers whose actions ultimately determine outcomes. At the University of Virginia Health System, we have sought to make data science actionable by embedding it within the organization’s lean process improvement efforts. In doing so, we have changed our approach to analytics and team structure. This talk focuses on our approaches, successes and challenges on how we implemented a data science strategy.
