Michael Ross, MD, FAAP, FACMI

Michael Ross, MD, FAAP, FACMI, is a Chief Medical Information Officer at Optum Insight, supporting Eastern Maine Medical Center – Northern Light Health. Dr. Ross splits his time between Medical Informatics and General Pediatrics. When not shepherding bits and bytes of medical data, he can be found herding small children at his Northern Light Pediatric Primary Care Office.  Dr. Ross graduated from pediatric residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center in 2003, and began practicing in Bangor following his residency. In 2015, Dr. Ross combined his love of patient care and healthcare technology becoming the CMIO for Eastern Maine Medical Center. Since that time, he has led dozens of technology projects at Northern Light Heath, including system-wide electronic medical records (EMR) implementations, clinical decision and medication alerting enhancements, novel off-site scribing programs, and patient portal engagement programs, designed to enhance care delivery, increase patient access, and reduce provider documentation burden. In response to the pandemic, Dr. Ross worked to expand the NLH Telehealth footprint to meet the increased need. Following a whirlwind deployment, he expanded the Telehealth program, developing strong system governance and launching multiple synchronous and asynchronous telehealth projects, both provider-to-patient and provider-to-provider. In 2023, Dr. Ross helped lead efforts establishing a partnership between Optum Insight and NLH, resulting in the successful transition of 1,400 employees. Transitioning departments included Clinical Informatics, Information Technologies, and Revenue Cycle among others.

Dr. Ross is board certified in Pediatrics (2003) and Medical Informatics (2015). His clinical interests include enhancing EMR adoption to reduce provider burnout, alerting reduction, computerized decision support (CDS), and TeleHealth. He is married with 2 children, and resides in Bangor, Maine.
