Ann Shepard, RN-BC, MSN

Ann Shepard is the Vice President and Chief Nursing Informatics Officer for CommonSpirit Health, based in Chicago, Illinois.  Her focus has been on nursing, medical and clinical informatics: system implementation, workflow analysis and creation, leading and managing people–initially in critical care (post op open heart and surgical ICU), information technology (help desk, project management, operational support, informatics, desktop support) and more recently leading establishment of governance for market prioritizations.  Additionally, as the EHRs evolve, the need to improve workflows and clinical documentation increases. In a dyad partnership with James Reichert, MD CSH CMIO, they coordinate optimization and improvement efforts across the CommonSpirit EHR landscape.  Additionally, Ann leads the Meaningful Use (now known as Promoting Interoperability) efforts to maintain CSH acute care and ambulatory compliance and continue to avoid penalties affecting organizational compliance and reimbursement.

Ann has many years of service with CSH, beginning as a diploma nursing student at Mercy School of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa.  She has held nursing and IT staff and leadership positions at both the market and national levels.

She is serving as an adjunct professor in nursing informatics at St. Mary’s College in Bismarck, ND.

She received her BSN and MSN from Drake University in Des Moines and is a Certified Nurse Informaticist from the American Nursing Credentialing Center.
